Merry Christmas all! Please read!

Merry Christmas Year 12s, in my haste I gave you the A2 evaluation questions (wishful thinking) instead of the AS ones.

Therefore, please see the longer list of questions below-remember, I would like you to make notes on each of these questions before you get back.

  • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

  • How does your media product represent particular social groups?

  • What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  • Who would be the audience for your media product?

  • How did you attract/address your audience?

  • What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

  • Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Thanks and hope you have a relaxing Christmas break

- Wrote notes for the evaluation questions below.

For you January mock exams, it will be centred around your evaluation so please complete the necessary work above. Also, your research and planning will be marked in January!  Have a great holiday, Miss BecklesHead of Media Studies

Research and Planning tasks

Dear year 12s,

All Planning and Research tasks will need to be uploaded to the blog by Friday this week for marking and feedback by myself and Miss Beckles.  Well done on all of the work you have done so far with moodboards, flatplans etc.  A few general points:

- Your moodboards need to include lots of examples of existing magazin covers/contents pages/double page spreads in your genre.

- You also need to upload a supporting statement alongside your moodboard/s explaining which ideas/styles/conventions you will use and how/why

you will need 2-3 digital flatplans of cover/contens page/double page spread in total show a range of ideas.  Ideally the 2-3 flatplans should show a development of your ideas.

I will be able to talk you through any of this tomorrow during the lesson.

Also, lookout for your homework task that will be posted by Miss Beckles at some point before Friday this week.  It will be to do with self-evaluation of the research and planing work you have done.

Please find below the slideshare of the work that we looked at today. Can you work out why the work was given the marks?

Mr Barlow's absence

Hello all,

As you are aware Mr Barlow isn't in, this does not mean that you have nothing to do. In his absence I have a long list of tasks for you to complete.

1. Buy a music magazine that is from your chosen genre e.g. Kerrang, Q, Rollingstones etc.

2. Read all of the posts and advice from my training last week.

3. Complete 2 digital flat plans and explanations for your final product with full annotations of potential layout choices.

4. Create a mood board/ choose your favourite/ inspiring front covers, content's page and double page spread and explain how they have inspired your final product.

5. Link ALL of your research and planning to your final product.

6. Ensure that you have a range of pictures for your final product including a range of costumes, backgrounds, positioning, props etc.

7. Do indepth analysis of your research and ensure that it's linked to your final product.

If I think of anything else then I will post it, it's VERY, VERY, VERY important that you read the blog reguarly for updates and complete all of the above as well as anything else that you are missing out on your blog.

Many Thanks, Sorry to those who were talked at for an hour today, I just wanted you to have all of the relevant information.

Pictures for your front cover

Just to let you all know, your model (for your front cover, double page spread and content's page) needs to have a range of costumes and props for your pictures.
You will be marked on your ability to take pictures Including staging, lighting, costumes etc.

Also, the quality of the photographs need to be high quality!

Think about using a range of different backgrounds, lighting and props e.g.
Piano, Guitar etc

Evaluation tips

All evaluation questions need to be answered.

I will upload these tomorrow! You will need to work towards answering ALL sections equally!  It's worth the same as research and planning.

Excellent use of ICT needs to be used, however, it must be fit for purpose! Don't just do it for the sake of it.

Each question needs to be added to separately.

Remember- you can start preparing for this as you go along! E.g. Screen shoots of what you are doing e.g. Photoshop.

Thanks all,
Miss Beckles

Final Production

This is my last post, you must have at least 4 images for your final production! Otherwise, you will lose marks.

- Take original pictures for your backgrounds e.g. Brick wall, floor, textures, colours etc.

You can uncle a Facebook or twitter link on your page.

Focus in the final details e.g. Spellings, copy size, font style and colour/ proof read it and share with your friends.

One more post!

Thanks,
Miss Beckles

Research and planning

SHOW YOUR PROCESS!!

- Create a sense of journey...

- Write what you've learnt from researching content's page or front cover.

- You need to have equal weighting for both research and planning.
- this includes your own research, you need to research your own magazine genre as well as the ones that we give you.

- Your research needs to support your final product!!!

-Pay close attention to mise-en-scene in your front cover (props, setting, lighting, costumes) it needs to be in line with your magazine genre e.g. Use if flute, guitar, piano etc.

- Research titles for music magazines and your construction of titles e.g. How they appear, the font, size.

You MUST consider the needs of the audience!

Tips from the summer report

- Blogs should be clearly organised and signposted e.g. Labelled, post put up in order.

- Deadlines are deadlines- you are not able to submit after the cut off date (February).

- You need to put your FInal, final product at the top of your blog once it is finished.

Final production

For your final production, you need to scan grab it print screen as you go along for your evaluation.

If not, take off the layers and print screen it as you're going along.

Updates- W/C 4th November 2013

Year 12s,

This is a reminder that next week Tuesday you will be having the second of your five mock assessments.

As previously, we will be focusing on your coursework rather than an actual exam.

The exam will involve you pitching your idea for your final production, drawing a mock up/ flat plan and evaluating your work.

So, please come to the exam with some ideas for the above.

Also, well done to Sanusia this week for being the star of the week- she has uploaded three or more posts and an update for extra marks.

Take a look at her update for inspiration!

Feature Analysis Homework- Due 23.10.13

Please find the questions to answer while analysing the magazine feature.

Here are some questions to guide you with analysing the two page article/ feature.

How does the choice of band featured in the article suggest what the target audience will be?

What type of language is used in the article? Give examples of words or phrases which are specific to the style of the magazine.

How is colour used? What style of text is used?

How is the double page spread laid out? How much of the pages are taken up by images and how much by text?

What sort of tone is the magazine using when addressing the reader (as a close friend, a member of an “in” crowd or an informed intelligent fan)?

How is the artist/band presented to the audience through the images?

How does the style of the article match the style of the front cover of the magazine?

Does the article demand any prior knowledge when reading the article? Give examples

Thanks,
Miss Beckles

Homework reminder for 22/10/13

You have your production diary for week five to complete using the template below:

Keeping a structure to your blog entries will help you make sure you cover everything you need to in each post.

v What work you have completed this week?

v Are you on target with your timescales?

v How did the work go?

v Were you able to complete all you wanted to? If not, why not?

v Did you get ahead of time? If so, how did you achieve this? How will you use the extra time?

v What have you learnt? Will this change your project?

You also have to ensure that you have collected all of your research results, analysed your findings and created graphs to represent your results.

- What do you notice about your findings?
- What key trends did you notice?
- How will this pre-construction research impact on your choices for your final production?

Have a productive weekend all, if you were off this week then I hope you had a nice Eid, come and see me to catch up with any work missed.
